Our Story
Formed in early 2025, Awaroa Ki Karioitahi Catchment Landcare Incorporated began with a shared goal, to protect and restore the natural environment of our beautiful catchment area, with a common unity, or community.
We’re farmers, families, and local residents who believe that when we work together, we can make a real difference for our land, water, and wildlife.
Our Activities
- Pest control and trapping — supporting landowners to reduce predators and protect native birds.
- Native planting and fencing — improving biodiversity and habitat health across the catchment.
- Education and outreach — partnering with schools, experts, and organisations to share knowledge.
- Community events — building connections and wellbeing through shared experiences.

We’re proud to work alongside the Rural Support Trust, DairyNZ, Rabobank, Power Farming, Franklin Young Farmers, NZ Landcare Trust, Catchment Communities Aotearoa, Adaptive Consulting, Mountains To Sea Conservation Trust, Predator Free Whiriwhiri, and many others who support our vision for a healthier landscape and community.
Our relationship with local iwi, Ngaati Te Ata is central to all that we do. We deeply value their guidance, knowledge, and connection, not only in caring for the land and waterways, but in nurturing the people, culture, and community of this catchment. These connections are respected, cherished, and woven into how we plan, act, and grow as a group.
